Learn more about Emma...
What do you think is the most important skill for a marketer to have, and why?
In my experience, the skill that has helped me the most in my marketing career is empathy. Empathy helps me to create campaigns, websites, collateral and other materials. It allows me to dive deep into, gain a better understanding and ultimately anticipate the needs and desires of the end user. By putting myself in the shoes of the person who will use the product or get hit with the ad, I can create experiences that are intuitive, accessible and enjoyable.
What's your favorite thing about working at Market Crafters?
My favorite thing about working at Market Crafters is the people. I work with some talented badasses who are excited by new ideas and passionate about helping me tackle problems that our clients face. And on the client side, I work for people who I geniunely like and who root for me as much as I root for them. Our clients are truly one of a kind and I've been working with most of them since starting at Market Crafters in 2011. They are the reason why I get excited to start up my computer every morning.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I'd love to be able to teleport. I could name a thousand ways that teleporting would make my life better, but I'll just list two. First, I love to travel and to be able to get to my destination in a minute would allow me to go to so many more places than I'm able now. The first place I'd go is the Philippines to meet my teammates in person. Plus it would cut down on the drive time to Minneapolis to visit my family if I could just teleport there and back. I'm getting a little sad thinking about NOT having this superpower. And second, teleporting would help me stay one step ahead of my wild kids. Jimmy running away in a parking lot? Teleport in front of them and block their way.
What's something on your bucket list that you haven't done yet?
Pretty much everything on my bucket list has to do with travel. I've have a huge list of places I want to go, and now that I have two kids the list has doubled because I obviously have to take them back to all the places I've already been and experience it with them. One of the biggest things on my list is to live in England some day, which I've already done (studying abroad during college) but now I have to take my kids!
If you could have any job other than the one you have now, what would it be?
This is a bit of a cop-out, but if I could do anything else, it would be a specific part of marketing that I don't get to do as often as I'd like, which is website user experience, information architecture and content development. I love figuring out the ways in which people navigate websites and how to showcase information in the most clear and intuitive way. So if you ever have a project like that, give me a call!
